Whether it’s toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, underwear, socks, our kids toys or all of the above, we get calls every week from families that are struggling with item obsession. It’s unrealistic that we can keep these items put away, everyday for the rest of our dogs lives. Training our dogs to understand these items are part of life, is something that is achievable. If this behavior isn’t addressed, it can lead to an obstruction.
Barkley LOVES toilet paper. He likes to sneak into the bathroom and nibble or shred a few squares at times. He also finds it fun to snag the end piece and run from one end of the house to the other. In our session, we taught Barkley that toilet paper is like furniture. It’s there, but he should leave it alone. We want him to be neutral from a state of mind standpoint, about the presence of toilet paper, when he is at liberty. Super proud of Barkley and his family. They’re really putting in the work!tag
